A well-cared-for wig can last significantly longer and continue to look stunning wear after wear. Whether you have a human hair wig or a synthetic wig, following the right care routine makes all the difference. Use this guide to keep your AuraHairStudio wig in perfect condition.

General Care Tips (All Wig Types)

  • Always handle your wig gently — avoid pulling or tugging on the fibers
  • Store your wig on a wig stand or mannequin head when not in use to maintain its shape
  • Keep your wig away from excessive heat, humidity, and direct sunlight when storing
  • Avoid sleeping, swimming, or showering while wearing your wig
  • Use only products specifically formulated for wigs
  • Detangle gently using a wide-tooth comb or wig brush, starting from the ends and working upward

How to Wash Your Wig

Human Hair Wigs

Human hair wigs can be washed similarly to natural hair, but with extra care:

  1. Detangle first — gently comb through the wig before washing to remove any knots
  2. Rinse with cool water — hold the wig under cool running water, working from root to tip
  3. Apply shampoo — use a sulfate-free shampoo. Apply gently in a downward motion — never scrub or rub
  4. Rinse thoroughly — make sure all shampoo is completely rinsed out
  5. Condition — apply a moisturizing conditioner from mid-length to ends. Leave for 3–5 minutes, then rinse
  6. Pat dry — gently pat with a soft towel. Never wring or twist
  7. Air dry — place on a wig stand and allow to air dry naturally. Avoid direct heat while wet

Recommended wash frequency: Every 10–15 wears, or when product buildup is noticeable.

Synthetic Wigs

  1. Detangle gently — use a wide-tooth comb before washing
  2. Prepare a basin — fill a basin with cool water and add a small amount of synthetic wig shampoo
  3. Soak — submerge the wig and gently swish for 1–2 minutes. Do not rub or scrub
  4. Rinse — rinse under cool running water until water runs clear
  5. Condition (optional) — apply a synthetic wig conditioner, leave for 2 minutes, then rinse
  6. Pat dry — gently pat with a towel. Never wring
  7. Air dry — place on a wig stand and allow to dry completely before styling or storing

Human Hair Wigs

Human hair wigs can be styled just like natural hair:

  • Use a flat iron, curling wand, or blow dryer on low to medium heat settings
  • Always apply a heat protectant spray before using any heat tools

Synthetic Wigs

  • Do not use heat tools on standard synthetic wigs — heat will permanently damage the fibers

Lace front wigs require a little extra attention to keep the lace looking natural:

  • Clean the lace regularly using isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab to remove adhesive residue
  • Be gentle around the lace — avoid pulling or stretching it
  • When removing, use a lace adhesive remover to dissolve glue before lifting the wig
  • Allow the lace to dry completely before reapplying or storing
